Terms of Service

Welcome to VisNotes. By accessing or using our platform, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use VisNotes.

Account Creation

To use certain features of VisNotes, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate information during registration and to keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to use VisNotes for any unlawful purpose or in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the service. Prohibited conduct includes but is not limited to: uploading malicious content, harassing other users, distributing spam, attempting to gain unauthorized access to other accounts, or using the platform to infringe upon intellectual property rights.

User-Generated Content

VisNotes allows you to create, upload, and share visual notes and other content. You retain ownership of the content you create. By publishing content on VisNotes, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to host, display, and distribute your content as necessary to operate the platform. We do not claim ownership of your creations.

Limitation of Liability

VisNotes is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no warranties, expressed or implied, regarding the reliability, accuracy, or availability of the service. To the fullest extent permitted by law, VisNotes shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including loss of data or profits, arising from your use of the platform.

Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately, though we may retain copies of your content as required by law or for legitimate business purposes.

Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated terms on this page. Continued use of VisNotes after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Information We Collect

Account information: When you sign up, we collect your email address, username, and profile details you choose to provide.

Usage data: We automatically collect information about how you interact with VisNotes, including pages visited, features used, and timestamps. This helps us improve the platform.

Content data: Visual notes, comments, and other content you create are stored to provide the service.

How We Store Your Data

VisNotes uses Supabase as its backend infrastructure for authentication, database storage, and file storage. Your data is stored securely in Supabase-managed servers with encryption at rest and in transit.

We use cookies to maintain your authentication session and to improve your experience. See our Cookie Policy below for more details.

Third-Party Services

We may use third-party analytics tools to understand usage patterns. These services may collect anonymized data in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can update your account information through the settings page or contact us to request data deletion. We will respond to requests within 30 days.

VisNotes uses cookies and similar technologies to provide and improve the service.

Essential Cookies

These cookies are required for the platform to function. They include authentication session tokens that keep you logged in and CSRF protection tokens. You cannot opt out of essential cookies while using VisNotes.

Analytics Cookies

We may use analytics cookies to understand how users interact with VisNotes. These cookies collect anonymized data such as page views, session duration, and feature usage. This data helps us improve the platform.

Managing Your Preferences

Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings. You can choose to block or delete cookies, though this may affect the functionality of VisNotes. Disabling essential cookies will prevent you from logging in.

Content Ownership

Your Content

You retain full ownership of all visual notes, text, images, and other content you create on VisNotes. We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your creations.

License to VisNotes

By publishing content on VisNotes, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, display, reproduce, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating, developing, and improving the platform. This license continues until you delete your content or your account.

Derivative Works

VisNotes will not create derivative works from your content without your permission. However, incidental modifications such as resizing or reformatting for display purposes are covered by the license above. If another user remixes or references your publicly shared work, you may report the content if it violates your rights.

Content Removal

You may delete your content at any time through the platform. Upon deletion, we will remove your content from public display within a reasonable timeframe. Cached or backed-up copies may persist for a limited period as part of our standard infrastructure processes.

DMCA / Copyright

VisNotes respects the intellectual property rights of others and expects users to do the same. We comply with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) and will respond to valid takedown requests.

Filing a Takedown Request

If you believe that content on VisNotes infringes your copyright, please send a written notice to our designated agent with the following information:

  • A description of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed
  • The URL or location of the infringing content on VisNotes
  • Your contact information (name, address, email, phone number)
  • A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized
  • A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information is accurate and you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf
  • Your physical or electronic signature

Counter-Notification

If your content was removed due to a DMCA takedown and you believe the removal was a mistake, you may file a counter-notification including: identification of the removed content, a statement under penalty of perjury that the content was removed by mistake, your contact information, and your consent to jurisdiction.

Repeat Infringer Policy

VisNotes maintains a policy of terminating accounts of users who are found to be repeat copyright infringers. After receiving multiple valid takedown notices regarding a user, we will permanently suspend their account.
